Sony Music, Warner Music and other record labels have sued Anthropic and its CEO Dario Amodei, alleging the company used tens of thousands of copyrighted music works (primarily lyrics) to train Claude without permission. Plaintiffs claim Amodei explicitly directed and facilitated the infringement, seeking up to $150,000 per work. Anthropic previously settled a $15 billion lawsuit over pirated book training in September 2025.
